Sustainable Cooperation Between Reynolds and Daimler
On April, 2010, Reynolds Nissan Union and Daimler formally allied and cooperated. Reynolds Nissan union held 3.1 percent stock equity of Daimler Group, while Daimler held 3.1 percent stock equity of Reynolds and Nissan separately. But for the long time, cooperation of the two parties is only limited to that Daimler provided gasoline or diesel motor for Infiniti. As was known, on April, 2010, Germany Daimler Group and Reynolds Nissan Union signed an agreement that they would expand wide cooperation in small car, commercial vehicle and car future dynamical system. Nissan car presently announced that it would produce Gasoline Engine for Germany car tycoon Daimler in American Tennessee factory from 2014.
In middle September, 2011, Daimler CEO Zetsche and Nissan CEO Carlos Geon hosted press reference, planning to expand the cooperation between Daimler Benz and Infiniti and revealing that this time two parties cooperation may extend to small car platform technology sharing. Besides, as a part of cooperation agreement, Reynolds would further produce four-sit version small car under Daimler Group in Novo Mesto factory in Slovenia. While this time both of the two parties turned their eyes to luxurious car over B level standard and promoted cooperation to a new height. Daimler Group CEO Zetsche is considering developing high-end car business with Reynolds Corporation at present.
Reynolds market and sales department executive vice-president Jerome Stoll stated when he was accepting Germany press Boersen-Zeitung interview that Daimler Group CEO Zetsche was meeting Reynolds top leaders that the cooperation in high-end car field was quite possible as long as it was beneficial to both parties. Stoll added that Reynolds Cooperation was researching and developing new high-end car product at the present stage which gave priority to new type Espace large-scale van and would come into the market in 2014.
Recently, Daimler Car Corporation would extend the cooperation relationship from car research and development field to electromotor battery field. After the cooperation relationship was established, Reynolds Car Corporation would join the joint venture of Daimler and Evonik Company, Li-Tec Battery Company. At present, the two companies are debating on technological requirement. After these requirements are explicit, Evonik Company would join Daimler and Reynolds talks.
In present new energy car business, opposite and horizontal alliances cooperation between transnational car-enterprises are too much to account. In general, this type of cooperation way similar to cross share holding in capital market has two functions. On one hand, it can weaken unreasonable cutthroat competition between car enterprises. On another hand, in the face of present new energy car industry relative core technology, especially motive power battery technology still doesn't get materiality breakthrough, the win-win partnership between car enterprises can centralize limited research and development power and get breakthrough in related technology research and development.
